How to Program Video Games

gameIt is not uncommon for people to dream of developing and creating their very own game from scratch. It can seem like a daunting task and in truth it is. Some of the most popular video games around today take years to develop. From the game design to start with through to the game programming, things can take a long time to come together. Once this phase is over then video game testing has to take place before the game is ready to go live and on to the shelves. There is so much to learn when wanting to program a game. As games have developed from simple 2D graphics to fantastic 3D landscapes and characters, so the development time increases. With a few simple steps you can get started on your very own game and create the basics to start with.

Step 1: Learn a Programming Language
The first thing you need to know when you want to learn how to program a new video game is to research and learn about programming languages. You will not be able to program a game without first learning a language in which to write it in. There are some languages that are easy to use and very popular among developers. They are very good formats for video games. These are Flash, Basic, and Java. They are not at the cutting edge of technology by any means but will certainly give you an idea of what programming is all about and will get you started. You will start to understand the logic involved with programming languages and start to work with the code.

Step 2: Start with Basic Programming
The best language to start off with when learning the concepts is the Basic programming language. It is a method of programming that is popular and is very good for beginners. However, it is rather out-dated and goes back to the old days of the MS-DOS prompt. The fundamentals of programming can be learnt with this language. You should look for online courses to teach yourself how to program with this language.

Step 3: Download Flash
The next thing you should do when learning languages to program video games is to find a resource from which to download flash. There are places you can get a free trial if you search around. This interface is very visual and used by a vast amount of web pages you come across and games. It is slightly more complex than Basic but offers far more possibilities and opportunities than the others.

Step 4: Learn Javascript
Javascript is another language that should be learned when programming video games. It is one of the best web languages around when it comes to making games. It is similar in many ways to HTML code and does not require any special programs to run it.

Step 5: Take Some Courses
The final step after you have taught yourself the programming languages in question is to go out and take some real courses. Once you have grasped the three languages above then you have a great chance to be able to program a video game.

Yugioh Cards - The Game

gameThe Yugioh trading card game has been very popular in the last 10 years. Players trade, buy, and duel with their collection of Yugioh cards. Like other TCG's it has a set of rules to follow.

Yugioh was invented by Kazuki Takashi and has become to be one of the top 10 most popular TCG games of all time. In the game you have to duel your opponent using your collection of yugioh cards. There are phases in the game. You can only do certain things in certain phases. Here are the phases:

Draw Phase

In the draw phase, players draw one card from their decks. You must draw the top card. At the start of the duel, each player must draw cards to their hand.

Standby Phase

This phase only occurs when a certain card's effect triggers it. If this doesn't happen, go on to the next phase.

Main Phase

Trap cards can be set, but not activated. Traps can only be activated on the next turn after their set. You can set monsters on the field, but they cannot attack yet. Plan out your strategy wisely.

Battle Phase

The intense stage in the duel. You attach your opponent's monsters on them directly. Direct attacks can only be used when there are no monsters on the opponents side of the field. If you can't or don't want to attack, go on to the next phase.

End Phase

The last phase of your turn. You simply tell your opponent that you have decided to end your turn.

These phases are combined into one of your many turns in a duel. A duel can have more than a hundred turns or as little as ten turns. It all depends on the skill of the players and the cards they have. Yugioh is a great game once you learn how to play it, so go out there, duel, and enjoy!

The author has been an active TCG player for quite some time now and loves sharing tips and other skills he finds. Check out one of their websites at Free Yugioh Cards

Stay on Top of Your Twitter Game

gameYep, the masses are chattering about your business on the net.

Well done. Now, what's your next step???

Twitter is a great way to pump out more materials. Which conversations are you going to engage in and how will you handle it? Keep in mind that that your responses online will factor in your brand image.

Here is a simple guide to help you create your own customized reply plan.

Listen to the people

Don't run blindfolded into a firestorm of comments. Go through the comment section and look for patterns within the conversation. Twitter is probably the best way to hear what the people have to say about your product, even from the big name players out there. Look out for any requests or confusion amongst your demographic. Use Twitter as a way to improve your product and/or service.

Know what you're going to say

Casually talking about your brand: the masses are chattering about your company but not in a way that directly relates to company name. They probably don't even know you have a Twitter account, or they're not interested in having you call out to them. Listen in on these conversations, but only add something to say when it is truly valuable.

Remarks about your brand: the masses will talk about your brand when they chit chat with their people or share something positive about it. When they say something about your company they are actively marketing you since they feel attached to that image. Always help them out if they have something negative to say, clarifying anything that's misconstrued, or applauding them if they said something great.

Direct responses: I highly recommend doing this, to always reply, at least to the ones that are seeking answers. These individuals have a vested interest in your brand - are you going to let them down or completely forget about them?

Establish rules, but have faith in your managers

It's highly critical to make sure your responses reflect how you want your brand to be perceived and remembered, but also give the masses room to go through their own judgment processes. Twitter is finicky when it comes to stock updates and other types of robotic responses. Let your management team who handles social media marketing respond in their own tone and give it a touch of humanity. When you go about hiring your community managers, you should try to make sure they opinions match the company's to a tee so you don't have to worry about them messing everything up, but also having enough trust to sleep well at night.

Time is priceless

As a general rule, the quicker you respond to a comment, the more support you have. If you're tweeting about detailedreams and I reach out to you right away with a hint or tip, you're going to be shocked. However, if you tweeted about a post I made two days ago and I just get in touch with you now, you've already forgot what you said, and my response feels watered down. For my @detailedreams account, I will always try to respond to your questions and/or concerns, even if I have to burn the midnight oil for some time, but a satisfactory response time is usually within a couple of hours.

Direct message vs. public reply

As another rule, if someone has a hard time with your brand, a direct message is the way to go about it. By taking this route, you can take care of the problem one-on-one. The only time you should reply publicly is if they're not an avid fan or if you know others are watching the discussion as well. In addition, when you strike up a conversation with a follower, try to follow them so they can direct message you if they want to take the conversation private. You know you can always follow up with an email or phone call where 140 characters do not hold you back.

Always responding to your Twitter comments can be a hassle. It's like customer support on meth with all eyes on you and a collective camera recording your every keystroke. It's critical to remember that the masses are talking to your brand even if you're handling most of the work.

How to Promote a Game Website

gameThe internet is saturated with topics and websites; one of the most competitive niches is video games, but don't worry, it's also one of the most lucrative. Promoting your game website can be seen as a science. If you perform these steps you will undoubtedly become successful. Your budget will determine the volume and alacrity of performing these tasks but should not be the deciding factor as there are a myriad of free options.

Define your strategy: Are you going to rely on Search Engine traffic, Social Media traffic, or offline such as word of mouth? Let's assume you want everything.

Search Engine Traffic:

Directories: You need more quality links to rank better. You have no credibility yet, so start off with web directories (like yellow pages online). Vmoptions and Directorycritic have great lists. There are thousands of these so enjoy.

Article writing: Just like you are reading this article, there is a link at the bottom linking to a website. The more articles you write related to your niche, the more distribution and back links you receive (not to mention referral traffic). EzineArticles is the top article directory.

Forum Posting: Most forums allow signature links to external websites. Be sure to add yours in bbcode or HTML. Do a simple Google search for your market "vbulletin"

Blogs: If you frequent blogs in your industry be sure to leave comments or even ask if you can have a link to your game website. Find related bloggers in blogroll links as friends of a feather blog together!

Link Exchange: Find relevant webmasters (go to their website and find contact us form) and ask them if they would link to you, if you link to them.

Top Sites: These are websites where you add their banner to your website, and they track how many people you send to them. It's a fancy way of doing a link / banner exchange with the added bonus of rewarding those that reward you.

Social Bookmarking: These are back links with the added benefit of being voted on by the community. Start by bookmarking your homepage, but then go back and submit your most popular inner pages.

Social Networking: Sites such as YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter. The web is becoming more social so the line between all of these mediums is becoming blurred. YouTube is the second largest search engine which means it can send thousands of visitors a day to your website. If you don't want to make videos then there is Facebook and Twitter, although those usually require seed money or an established website to break through the noise of generic networks.

Offline: Groups and networking is the key here. The best way to get any community started is by having your friends use it (after all if you won't use it no one else will). Classmates, sports team members, church group, and of course there is always billboards and small signs you can make. With the endless amount of ways to promote a video game website online, and the finite 24 hours in a day, it only makes sense to stick with online marketing outside the word of mouth.

Video Games Help Hand Eye Coordination

gameResearch has shown that children who play video games are able to improve their hand-eye coordination. This is because they have to undertake unique actions with their console as they play the game. The levels that are used in the game require this skill at an increasing rate. That means that the player has no option but to improve their game in this respect. If your kid is able to reach the heights of the game then there is no reason why they cannot improve their general coordination. The players also tend to get somewhat addicted to the play. That means that their skills will continue to improve regardless of the skill level that they started off with.

Making coordination with video games

As you make the right coordination with the games it is possible to get some benefits in other areas of your life. The kids can find that they are better at other parts of their sporting life. Some people are naturally talented in this respect and therefore the video games will just increase their competency. The reflexes are at their very best in this sort play. You might be able to change the way that these games are played but the basic principles that are required will be the same. You can improve your play if you follow the rules but the reflexes are another matter altogether. It takes time to control your body well enough to keep in touch with the play.

Perhaps video games are not given the recognition that they deserve in terms of improving the concentration of the player. This is an important consideration that must not be forgotten in all the plans. It is crucial to the way that the game is played. It will also help the player in other parts of their life. Of course if the concentration is just on the video game then it is not worth any salt. That is the kind of work that needs to be done in order to ensure that the game is serving the purpose for which it was set. The manufacturers are looking to create entertainment but at the same time the parent might want to develop some skills such as coordination.

The prejudice against video games

There is no doubt that prejudice will be part of the discourse on video games. Some people feel that they do not add anything to the player while other people look at them as a way out of any problems that they have with managing leisure time. There is no doubt that games will continue to be part of the discourse in entertainment circles. Some of the advantages that they bring such as the coordination qualities are important for people for different reasons. Each person will need to make a decision on whether these games are the best thing for their family. The development of technology has significantly improved the operation of the games. That might have other effects that are important in the long run.

your gaming desktop Configuration

your gaming desktop ConfigurationGaming desktops are top-of-the-line computers configured to run the all the modern games the gaming world has to offer. They don't come cheap, if you're wondering, nor are they eco-friendly when it comes to power consumption, but they are the best desktops when it comes to gaming, and they will display every pixel in crystal clear detail when needed. In order to have a good gaming desktop configuration, you'll have to have a basic grasp over some of the specifications such a machine should carry. You'll also have to set up a budget when trying to configure such a machine, or upgrade your current specs.

The Central Processing Unit

Gaming desktops need a powerful processor in their configuration in order to keep up with the ever-increasing requirements modern games have. Without a good CPU, you won't be able to even start-up such a game, not to mention run it. Your focus here is somewhere in the quad-core range. These can be a bit pricey, but they're a well worth investment in your future as a gamer, since they won't grow obsolete for years to come. Try to allocate at least 35% of your budget to this spec, since it's very important both for gaming and for other daily tasks you might run into.

You might also want to take note of the current socket your computer has for the processor, and explore upgrade options for that particular socket. But if you want a complete system upgrade, you'll also have to get a new motherboard to support the newer processor types that come out.

The System Memory

A decent amount of RAM will run a decent game. A higher amount of system memory will be a lot better for your gaming needs, since most games today require at least 2GB of RAM to run properly. If you really want to get the best performance out of your gaming desktop, your configuration for this spec should be in the 4-8GB RAM range. Luckily, RAM is an easily upgradeable spec, since most motherboards will carry around 4 sockets. If all the sockets are occupied on your system, you should look for RAM modules with a larger amount of system memory available.

The Visuals

The graphics card is the most important spec when figuring out the configuration of your gaming desktop. This is the element that brings true visual bliss to the gaming experience, so the joy factor will suffer if you neglect this aspect. There are tons of cards out there, but only a few which you can truly call the best. Since the best cards come at quite a big price tag, don't overdo it when purchasing a video card for your system. You should wait for a while since the prices on these things tend to go on a downward slope quite quickly, and you could get the same card at half the price in a matter of months, or weeks even in some cases.

Try to find a balance for these three important specifications when configuring your gaming desktop. Also, never spend all your budget on one of them, since the system will be unbalanced and data bottlenecks can occur.

Find out more about these specs and other, along with some great pre-built suggestions at the Gaming Desktops page I have created
